Decision ’08: Live Blog

So when my alarm went off this morning at 5:45 the devil made me snooze it until 6:30 at which point I woke up in a fury, threw on some sweats and ran (yes, I run on occasion) up the block to vote. I waited in line for about 40 mins before voting. But while I was waiting there a fight almost broke out between poll workers. The old lady at the door was giving us the wrong instructions. When the old lady at the table found out she laid into her and at some point called her ‘simple’. But I digress. As I was standing there I noticed that I had never (in the two previous times voting) seen so many black people at the polls. In fact, it was only black people. I know I live in Newark but let me have my moment to be proud. When I got in the booth there was something empowering and invigorating about pushing that all important button.

Yes, I took a pick with my phone…Oh, and YES I CAN!
I got to work and of course the election was ALL everyone was talking about. I thankfully didn’t have a long wait. But those who did all said the same thing, “I didn’t mind…I would have waited all day.”
