Obamapolooza!!!!

LL Cool J has some advice for our new presending...
He penned an open letter saying that he thinks Barack needs to stick to his principles in this new phase of his life. He writes, "The next chapter of your life has begun. The toughest decisions you will ever have to make lie in front of you. Decisions that will require you to choose between integrity and necessity to enact the promises made to millions of people, and recognize a change in perspective that will sometimes make those promises impossible to keep. Only you will be able to make those choices.” "You have shifted the cultural paradigm of America, but now you have to live up to the ideal that fostered the shift and ensure that the paradigm doesn’t shift back. You must deliver." Source
You know what? I can see that LL is writing this letter as a citizen and not a rapper. And I feel a lot of what he’s saying. BUT and however, I kinda can’t take him seriously. As I read what he wrote “Doin’ It” is looping in my head.

‘Newsweek’ is slammed for ‘racist’ cartoon…

Days after Obama singed the stimulus package and (in unrelated news) a chimp was put down for an attack in a suburban neighborhood, Newsweek published the above cartoon. The cartoon was done by NY Post’s Sean Delonas who’s known for his less than PC work.
"Being that the stimulus bill has been the first legislative victory of President Barack Obama (the first African American president) and has become synonymous with him it is not a reach to wonder are they inferring that a monkey wrote the last bill?" said Rev. Al Sharpton in a statement.
Post editor Col Allan addressed the issue, saying the cartoon is a "clear parody of a current news event" that "broadly mocks Washington's efforts to revive the economy," and nothing more. Source
Um, ok. Here’s the thing. Although this cartoon is CLEARLY (at least to me) racist. And there is no doubt that it’s meant to depict Barack as a monkey and stir the pot. I personally feel that, as unfortunate as it is, we, as black folk, should pick our battles. Fighting the ignorant thoughts of someone like this, who thirives off of the attention, is counter productive. Right now, Barack needs our support, not our defense, he can take care of himself.

Thanks Dayo!
