Gates Arresting Officer Says He's Not Racist

Officer James Crowley, the officer who arrested Henry Louis Gates, Jr. says that he’s not racist cus he once gave mouth to mouth to a dying black man.
He said, “I wasn’t working on Reggie Lewis the basketball star. I wasn’t working on a black man. I was working on another human being.” Source
Um, ok so let me bring you all back to about two and a half years ago. I was at work watching the press conference the Rutgers University Women’s Basketball team held following the whole ‘nappy headed hoe’ incident. I had a colleague walk up and ask loudly what ‘nappy’ means and what the big deal is. I know as the only darkie within a 50 foot radius, that said colleague, was talking to me. But I ignored the question, and kept working. The question was repeated several times until the camera panned across the team and the colleague said, “Wait a minute! None of those girls have dreadlocks! Isn’t that what nappy means? Hey Lo, you have dreadlocks. So you’re nappy, right?” With a swift look and base in my voice I informed this person that ‘nappy’ is a derogatory term that refers to the natural course curliness of SOME black people’s hair. This person skips off like nothing happened with a simple, “oh.” They just didn’t get it.
Anyway after hightailing it to HR…cus that’s how I do, a conversation was had with this coworker. You know what their explanation was for their actions? They said, “Well see I have this friend, right. And they have dreadlocks. And whenever they go to get their dreadlocks put on they say, ‘I’m gonna go get nappy.’ So that’s why I thought that’s what dreadlocks mean.” That day Jesus, the heavenly father and their legions of angels were hard at work to keep me from molly wopping this fool all over the HR dept.
Excuses are the tools of the weak and incompetent. Blue Phi can I get a witness?
There is no excuse for being a racist asshole. Say sory, take your punishment and move the hell on.
