Happy Black History Month!

Roc
Roc was one of the shows that EVERYONE in my family watched...together. I think one of the reasons why we liked Roc so much is because unlike The Cosby Show (even though it was one of our other favorites) Roc was not only funny but real and almost always relatable at the same time. What Roc did for the black people was show a family who's struggles and experiences exemplified what so many of us were and still are dealing with today.
Roc and Elleanor worked their so hard to keep a roof over their heads and love in their hearts. The subject matter of the show was very heavy and the scenes could get pretty intense but with characters like Crazy George (Jaime Foxx) humor was always looming on the horizon. Something must also be said about the writing of the show as well as the bevy of talent among the cast. They shot and aired their complete second season LIVE for Pete's sake. It's something that hasn't been done (with a prime time scripted series) since the 50's.

Let's thank the creators and writers of Roc for showing that love and a sense of community do exist in black families.
