Boy is Suspended Over Skittles

Michael Sheridan, an eighth grader in Connecticut lost his position as class VP, was barred from attending and honors student dinner, and suspended for a day. Why” for buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate. School spokeswoman Catherine Sullivan-DeCarlo says the New Haven school system banned candy sales in 2003 as part of a district wide school wellness policy.
Michael's suspension has been reduced from three days to one, but he has not been reinstated as class vice president.
He says he didn't realize his candy purchase was against the rules -- although he did notice the student selling the Skittles on February 26 was being secretive. Source
This is ri-damn-diculous! It was just a bag of Skittles and this boy is an honors student for Pete’s sake! Cut him a break. Skittles ain’t never done me wrong that’s for damn sure (ask my sister about my OCD way of consuming the bite-sized pieces of heaven). I mean they make mouths happy! Wait, that’s Twizzlers. Whatever! This punishment is way too severe…couldn’t they like just tell him not to do it again and move on?
