Common is being sued for copyright infringement over his song ‘Take It EZ’, after failing to get permission to sample ‘When Will the Day Come.’ Andrew Marks and London McDaniels, the songwriters of the original song are asking for unspecified damages.
Common admits to using the song as his inspiration - in the online download of Take It EZ, the song details state, "Contains samples from When Will The Day Come." Source
Tsk, tsk, tsk Common. I know sampling fees are pretty redic, but if you get caught for swiping music, you end up paying A LOT more in the long run.

Common Escapes Death in Salon Shooting

Rapper Common witnessed a fatal shooting and just barely escaped bullets himself. Two gunmen fired at another man who fled into a salon. The suspects cornered him, killed him and four innocent bystanders were shot in the midst of it all. Common had just received a haircut right before shots rang out.

I know crime can happen anywhere but it’s sad when you can’t even go get your hair done without fear of getting lit up.

Serena Williams was spotted with rapper Common leaving a party at Villa Nightclub on Friday. They’ve been rumored to be dating for months. Source

This is an interesting couple to say the least. I guess they’re both a little eccentric in their own right, and Serena has been stepping it up as of late. But damn Common! Why doest thou breaketh my heart so?! Source

Common is Hangin' Up the Mic?

Rapper Common is comtemplating hanging up the mic to pursue acting. He thinks he can be more successful as a thespian than an MC. He tells ViBE, “I need a new fulfillment as an artist. I feel like I can become a bigger actor than I am a rapper. It's scary thinking, 'Damn, if I don't sell no records, what am I going to do?' When you haven't made multi millions in this game, you got to think about what you want to be doing when you're 50 or 60. I found an art that I really love and it's infinite." SOURCE

I mean look at what it’s done for other rappers. I often forget Queen Latifah was ever a rapper cus she’s blown up so big in the acting game. It’s the same way with Will Smith. I’d rather see one of his movies than buy one o his albums. Mos Def is fantablous..but I guess he doesn’t really count since he started out acting before he got into the rap game Please reference The Cosby Mysteries.
