Travis Barker and DJ AM in Fatal Plane Crash

Drummer and producer Travis Barker and DJ AM, nee Adam Goldstein, were critically injured in a plane crash Saturday (September 20, 2008). They were traveling from a performance in Columbia, South Carolina and never got off the ground. The plane sparked, ran off the runway, crashed through a metal fence and crossed a five lane highway before stopping.
An eyewitness told MSNBC that he "a fireball rolling across the highway." He then reported seeing two men who were "basically dumped out of the airplane upon the crash, who were standing in the road on fire, hitting each other trying to put the fire out," after which he attempted to "get in the plane to see if [I] could help anyone else but the flames at that point were just too bad." Travis, who was burned from the waste down, and Adam, who suffered burns to the arm and head, are in critical condition in a burn unit in South Carolina. The four other people on the plane all died. They included the two pilots Sarah Lemmon, 31, and James Bland, 52, as well as Barker’s assistant, Chris Baker, 29, and his bodyguard, Charles Still, 25.
The two survivors are expected to recover. Their families released a shared statement:
"Both Travis Barker and Adam Goldstein (DJ AM) are currently being treated for second and third degree burns. Barker suffered from burns on his torso and lower body and Goldstein suffered from burns on his arm and a portion of his head," according to the statement. "Since both Barker and Goldstein are in overall good health and didn't suffer from any other crash-related complications, a full recovery is expected."Thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those lost and those trying to recover.
