Mariah Carey Pushes Album and All Promotion

Mimi has cancelled all promotion of her new album, “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.” She was set to appear on the TODAY show on August 28th but cancelled and will be replaced by Miley Cyrus. She also either postponed or canceled several upcoming appearances including the VMAs, VH1 Story tellers, and receiving of her Hollywood Walk of Fame star. Source
I’m gonna have to agree with Wendy Williams who said that this may be baby related. We’ll know shortly if we see her sporting a bump…that is if she ever leaves the house.

Janet is Back at Work

Janet is going back to the studio after her last flop and the tragic death of her brother Michael. She re-launched her official website and shared this news with fans:
Later this year, Janet will publish her first book, providing an intimate look at her life and how she has dealt with issues of self-esteem. Janet will reveal aspects not known before about her uniquely successful career not only in music but in television and motion pictures.
One of the motion pictures the sit eis talking about his her reprisal of a role in the sequal to Tyler Perry’s ‘Why Did I Get Married Too.’ Source
I hope that this album is the one for her.

Whitney was Apprehensive About Working with Akon

Cousin Whit says that she wasn’t so sure about working with Akon when her mentor Clive Davis first suggested it. She said, “When Clive told me I would be working with Akon, I thought, ‘Hmm, interesting, um, all right’. I wanted the record like ‘My Love Is Your Love’ with an island feel. I wanted an island record because ‘My Love Is Your Love’ is so huge and it has its own fashion with Wyclef. I wanted that feeling, but I didn’t know who could do that. And Clive came and said, ‘Akon is the guy that we’re going to work with.’ And I was like, ‘OK, Akon. OK, I can deal with that.’ “
She adds, “I was asking him, ‘Did your mother name you Akon?’ And he said, ‘No, it means a convict.’ And I thought, ‘Oh, God. OK, all right, I can handle that.’ He’s a gentleman. He did his work very well. We did it very quickly, very diligently, and I’m very proud of that record. It’s a great record.” Source
Business is business so I guess she figured she might as well get some work done. But trust and believe she didn’t wear her good jewelry to the studio, nor did she let her purse out of her sight for one second.

Missy Talks New Music

Missy Elliot recently talked about her latest album and what her creative process is.
She says, It’s a process every time. One thing I like to do is bring dancers into the studio who have been dancing with me for years, and see how they move. They might be like, “Eh, this isn’t the one,” or sometimes they just get to dancing. I also like to go on YouTube to see the underground sounds, what the kids are listening to, and kind of gauge my music around that. Source

Is Mariah Scared of Whitney?

Mariah Carey was supposed to release her new album the same day that Whitney Houston is, August 25st. However she’s pushed the album saying that it still needs work. Folks are thinking that she’s scared to put the album up against Whitney’s cus Whit will blow her out of the box. Source
I think it’s a smart move whatever the motive is. Everyone is curious to see if Whit still has it so they’ll buy the album out of curiosity alone. Since Mimi had her come back a few years ago I think she should definitely step back and let her fellow diva have some shine.

50 Cent wants to battle jay-Z in album sales. He plans on releasing his new album ‘Before I Self Destruct’ on Sept. 11th, which happens to be the same day Jay is dropping ‘Blueprint 3’. Source
Apparently Fiddy has severe memory loss. He apparently forgot how Yeezy obliterated him in sales when he challenged him two years ago. This is Jay we’re talking about. He needs to just bow out gracefully.

Brit has taken a break from her tour to start working on her next album.
She’s working with Max Martin who produced Oops I Did It Again.
Writing on social networking site Twitter.com on Sunday (12Jul09), she says, "In Stockholm in the studio with Max Martin." Source

In Other Britney News...
Britney has reportedly gained 14lbs in her one month tour break. She’s now being pressured to lose it before hitting the stage again.
A source said: "She was in tears saying they're calling her fat again. She showed up to a meeting with a latte in her hand and everyone jumped on her. Britney's supposed to be eating a diet of fish, chicken and vegetables. When she swaps the healthy stuff for junk, her dad gets worried."
The source added to Britain's Star magazine: "She does not think about the calories in the food, just that she likes it. She loves greasy food and creamy sweets and hates fruit and vegetables. She still eats a lot of fast food - mainly late at night.
"It started as a kid when she hid her habits from her parents. She loves cookies and keeps candy in her travel bags. She hides it or people will be on her case. Her trainers tell her they know she's cheating, but she tells them, 'Mind your own business.' " Source
Yea! Mind your own GD business. I understand she has an image to maintain but keeping fit and trim is hard for everyone. Shoot, I don’t have ANY children and I’m struggling to work out and eat right.

Mariah Spoofs Em in New Vid

Mimi not only gets back at Eminem in the song “Obsessed” but she’s also spoofing him in the video.
"I was like, 'Why are you so obsessed with me?' " Carey says before the music begins. Even though she never says Em’s name we know she’s talking about him. "It must be the weed, it must be the E / 'Cause you be poppin', you get it poppin'," Carey sings.
The video was shot in NY and Mariah dressed up as a white guy in baggy clothes. Source
I like that she’s so transparent. Way to give Em a taste of his own medicine.

Fantasia Goes Gospel

Fantasia is switching to Gospel. She’s going to include a gospel track on her next album and will do an all gospel album shortly after.
She says, “Church is in me…I’m doing what I was raised up on. Even doing R&B, I’m doing gospel.” In addition to music Fantasia and her family have been taping her new reality show for the last 2 months, which will air VH1 later this year. Source
Well good for Fanny. She’s working hard to pull herself back from the brinks of brokenness.

Al B. Sure Releases First Album in Almost 20 Years

Al B. Sure, released his first studio album in 17 years this past Tuesday. “Honey I’m Home” was released on Hidden Beach Records (a new label for him).
Good for him…I guess.
He is performing his big hit “Nite and Day”…Live (Please note it’s pretty ridiculous. If you need a laugh, watch IMMEDIATELY.)

Update 76: Chris Brown Arrested

Chris Brown his moving on from RihRih to singer Keri Hilson, but not in the bed. He’s asked her to help out in the studio on his upcoming album.
“He contacted me like four or five days ago,” Hilson said earlier this week during a promotional appearance at Wet Seal in L.A.’s Beverly Center Mall. “Us working together will probably be the first project I’ve worked on as a songwriter in a while.”
Keri thinks that his fans will stick with him through his legal ordeal. “It is unfortunate what they are going through, but I always feel like if you’ve ever had a fan base, you’re really only one song away from appeasing that fan base,” she said. “Whether that song is autobiographical or whether you want to talk about that or not, you’re just one hit song away. And that’s what I think of the industry in a nutshell.”
As far as her opinion on the incident she says, “I’m still kind of hoping it’s not true. I’m a face-value person. I won’t believe it until I see it.” Source
I can understand Keri wanting to work with Chris. 1. she’s right, we don’t know the details of what he did and 2. Money is money.

Mimi is dragging out the beef with Eminem by targeting him in her new single “Obsessed.”
Eminem took stabs at Mariah when he rhymed, "Mariah, what ever happened to us, why did we have to break up... Nick Cannon better back the f**k up. I’m not playing, I want her back, you punk." In her new song she sings, "You’re delusional, boy, you’re losing your mind... It must be weed, it must be the E... Why are you so obsessed with me? Lying that you’re sexing me." "You’re a mom & pop, I’m a corporation/I’m a press conference, you’re a conversation." Source

R. Kelly isn’t going to name his next album.
He says, "I've been in the biz 17 years, so everyone is used to me naming my records. So I wanted to mix it up a little. I want whoever listens to the record to call it what they want, name it themselves based on what they feel listening to the music."

Update 75: Chris Brown Arrested

Update 75: Chris is convinced that regardless of all the drama, his next album is gonna be fire.
“Chris is focused,” says songwriter Robert Allen. “He knows how to deal with whatever is going on and is willing to do what he has to do to please his fans.”
“It’s not particularly just R&B. Chris is trying different things and experimenting. We’ve been making things really eclectic. The direction of this album is really fun and free spirited. It’s like a collage.”
“You want to go away so your audience can miss you some,” Allen says of why Brown has laid low. “But he’s so happy and ready for this next album to break through and make a big impact. He wants this to be his masterpiece. He’s predicting this will be his biggest album.” Source
I think folks will buy it out of curiosity not necessarily support or even appreciation for his talent. But hey, whatever pays the bills I guess.
