Fantasia Goes Gospel

Fantasia is switching to Gospel. She’s going to include a gospel track on her next album and will do an all gospel album shortly after.
She says, “Church is in me…I’m doing what I was raised up on. Even doing R&B, I’m doing gospel.” In addition to music Fantasia and her family have been taping her new reality show for the last 2 months, which will air VH1 later this year. Source
Well good for Fanny. She’s working hard to pull herself back from the brinks of brokenness.

Fanny's Got a New Gig

Fantasia will be joining the Reality TV world soon. She’s just inked a deal with VH1 for her own show. “Fantasia has one of the most fascinating stories in show business, from her tough upbringing to her meteoric rise on the national scene thanks to American Idol. Her challenges from fame and her unwillingness to fail have combined to create a larger-than-life talent who appeals to music lovers around the world. So many people wanted to work with her on this, but Fantasia is now part of the VH1 family, and we’re so happy to have her” says VH1 exec Jeff Olden. Source
I can’t say I’m interested enough in Fanny’s life to watch. But then again I said the same thing about Ray J and I haven’t missed an episode of his show.

Fanny's Gettin' Her Learn On

Singer Fantasia, says that she wants to get her GED.
“I’ve been talking about it for so long. I have a lot of young people who look up to me, like my 15-year-old brother and 7-year-old daughter. “It’s something that I really need to do and that I want to do.”
“I had to sit back for awhile and had to get some things settled,” she said. “I had been with a lot of people not doing what they said they were going to do. I didn’t have time to sit back and cry. I didn’t have time to go to a mental health counselor. I had to keep my s–t on straight—excuse my language!—and handle my business, because it’s not just about me. It’s about me and my whole family.” Source
Good for her. She could just sit back and be complacent with being a star. But she’s actually trying to set an example. Kudos Fanny!

Fantasia and Young Dro are Dunzo?

Word is that Fanny and Dro are on the skids. The two have been dating for a little while now and According to Necole Bitchie the Fantasia was at an Atlanta club and the DJ announced that she was single. Source
Muy interesante. As much as I denounce ghettohood I actually liked this ghettotastic couple. We’ll see how this develops.

Fantasia Gets Dropped

Fantasia Barrino has been dropped by 19 Management, the company that signs all American Idol winners as soon as their season is over. The reason for the split is being listed as creative differences.
A rep for 19 declined to comment, but assured EW that management deals for David Cook, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Jordin Sparks, and Blake Lewis remain intact. Source
I love how they declined to comment but then proceeded to say that everyone BUT Fantasia still has a deal with 19 management. As my girl Tuni would melodically wax, "Shaaaady Sha-ay-deeeee!"

Star also broke the story of Nia Long and Kevin Phillips romance. Nia’s been dating this tenderoni (13 years her junior) for a few months and she’s already moved him into her L.A. home.
“She was trying to keep it a secret,” says a source. “But people were starting to figure it out. Her friends tell her she has nothing to be ashamed of and that she needs to live her life to the fullest.” Source

Fanny Shut Down the Color Purple?

The Color Purple will be closing on Sunday February 24th after two years on Broadway. Some are attributing the close of the show to Fantasia Barino. If you recall, the American Idol alum missed 50 performances during her run as Celie. This resulted in mass refunds. If the headliner is does not perform the ticket holder can request a refund. Ergo, the show was cost a lot of money by her repeated absences. Conversely, the ticket sales were at their highest during Fantasia’s time with the show. So when she stopped performing as Celie people stopped buying tickets. This further resulted in a loss of money. The higher ups decided to end the show and send it on a national tour. Source
Dang Fanny. You musta been good to shut down the whole damn production. Now I’m kinda mad that when I saw after she left. From what I hear from people who’ve seen her in it, she is the shizz. Too bad it couldn’t have a longer run here on Broadway. But, at least now people in other cities get to check out the show.

Fanny is Out of Work

This past weekend Fantasia gave her last performance as Celie in the Broadway adaptation of “The Color Purple”. Aunt Patti was on hand and Fanny got a standing ovation. Celie will be played by Zonya Love. Source I wonder if she decided to leave on her own or if big wigs got rid of her since her blackle butt don’t like to show up to work.

Someone's About to Be in Trouble

Fanny, who has been starring as Celie in Oprah Winfrey Presents: The Color Purple, has been slacking. In the seven months in the role she's missed 50 performances! She’s costing the show a boatload of money because apparently when the headlining star doesn’t perform the ticket holder can get a refund or rain check.
Sources say Fantasia’s out a lot because “she’s simply not up to the grueling Broadway schedule.”
Ooooooo! I’m telling Oprah! She’s gonna have her army of fame angels swoop down to exact righteous indignation and fury upon thee!
