Shaq and Kobe Share MVP

Former Lakers teammates, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, not only reunited on the West team for the 2009 All-Star game but also shared the MVP title.
"It felt like old times," O'Neal said. "I miss those times. He was really looking for me, especially when we went to a pick-and-roll and they had Rashard Lewis on me."
"I tell you what, those two guys together, that's a deadly combination as we all saw tonight and we have all seen in the past," East coach Mike Brown said. "They are where they are right now, but if they were to stay together, no telling how many more rings they would have had on their fingers and toes."
"We are not going to go back to the room and watch 'Steel Magnolias' or something like that, you know what I'm saying, crying, all that stuff," Bryant said. "We had a good time. That's all."
"I think it is a great life lesson for people," said West coach Phil Jackson, who led coached O'Neal and Bryant on the Lakers. "This is something that the people work together, people find a way to get through situations, find harmony in their life, find cohabitation." Source
I watched the game…barely but Shaq and Kobe were killing it. At least, they were killing it the few times I looked up from my computer. Sorry b-ball ain’t my thang.

Pammy's ad Gets Scrapped from the Super Bowl

Super Bowl. But and however, the ad has been pulled for being too racy. In the ad women in lingerie are fondling and kissing vegetables in efforts to encourage sports fans to go veggie
NBC Universal vice president of advertising standards, Victoria Morgan, states, "The PETA spot submitted to Advertising Standards depicts a level of sexuality exceeding our standards." But PETA bosses contend, "Studies Show: Vegetarians Have Better Sex", should never have been axed - and they fear there's another reason behind the ban. Group Senior Vice President Lisa Lange says, "PETA designed the commercial to add balance to the traditional onslaught of Super Bowl commercials for meaty, greasy, and factory-farmed fast food, including those run by KFC. The fast-food giant is a major NBC sponsor, and a target of heavy PETA campaigning as a result of its failure to reform cruel animal welfare practices and slaughter methods. "PETA is asking if this relationship could have something to do with NBC's decision to nix the group's ad. "PETA's veggie ads are locked out while ads for fried chicken and burgers are allowed - even though these foods make Americans fat, sick, and boring in bed." PETA spokesman Michael MCGraw adds, "The bottom line is, the ad is a fun, tongue-in cheek way of calling attention to the healthy, sexy, and humane reasons for switching to a vegetarian diet."

Plaxico Burress Suspended From One Game For Domestic Violence

Plaxico was suspended for fighting with his wife. On several occasions this summer police were called to the Burress household after altercations between Plaxico and his wife Tiffany. Tiffany claimed that on at least one occasion Plaxico grabbed her, and he claimed that she slapped him in the face. She also filed for a temporary restraining order twice and both orders were eventually dropped. Why was he suspended? Well, he neglected to inform the NFL of the domestic violence charges against him. Because he kept this info from them he was suspended for one game. Source
He looks like a beater. I mean, I’m not saying he is. I don’t know him. But some people just have that ‘look’. For the sake of them and their child I hope they all get some counseling. For my sake (Go Big Blue!) I’m gonna need Plaxico to lock it up. We need him for another Superbowl ring. Please and thank you.

Lil' Wayne Gets a Sports Writing Gig

Rapper Lil Wayne has signed on to write a blog series with ESPN The magazine. "I don't watch nothing but sports -no movies, no news, no television shows- so I thought it would be fun," Wayne tells readers. Because I watch so much sports, I like to think I know what's gonna happen."
Wayne says he not only watches sports but plays them too, "I grew up playing football. Believe it or not, I was a fullback. When I was nine, ten, eleven, I was a great blocker. I knew how to block real good and the other kids didn't. So there I was. One game when I was ten years old we were on the goal line about to score, and coach called the play for me. I was supposed to go one way, but I ended up sneaking around the other side on a sweep. Everybody thought I was already tackled. The ref was already blowin' his whistle. But I was still up and I stutter stepped one way and beat the last guy trying to get me and scored that touchdown," he recalls. 'That's my favorite sports memory for myself.'
He also says that he likes all types of sports. He writes, "Besides the Packers, my favorite teams are the Red Sox, the Lakers and the Boston Bruins. I also love tennis. I had a lot of people over to my place to watch the Wimbledon final this year, and we went crazy. I love Federer but Nadal is my favorite. He's the man. I love his motivation and his heart is big. He leaves it on the court. And when I found out he still lives with his family despite his success, that was it for me. That's unbelievable right there. That just goes to show you where his heart is at, how much love he has. So we were watching that match, and nobody thought he was gonna win. Everybody was telling me how he hadn't beat Federer on the hard court and he could only do it on clay but I never had any doubts. I knew his heart was gonna do it for him, and it did." Source
Eh, I don’t know. I like ESPN the way it is. With middle aged fat guys shootin the breeze in really bad suits. But I guess I can't knock the hustle...plus i don't have to read it if i don't want to.

Holyfield and Iron Mike Headed Back to the Ring?

Mike Tyson (41) and Evander Holyfield (45) are thinking about going back in the ring. Evander said, "Tyson wants to regain his character. I want a good showing, he wants a good showing - so the best man would come out on top." Source
WHY?! WHY? WHY?! This is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.
1. Y’all are both old as hell it’s time to hang up the gloves.
2. Mike is crazy as hell…I guess someone forgot getting a piece of their face bitten off by him.
3. There’s nothing that could happen to top the last time they met in the ring barring Mike hosting a Polynesian roast with Evander playing the part of the pig.

Everything Super Bowl...

That is probably the best super bowl I’ve ever watched in my ENTIRE life. And I’ve been watching football since I shot out of the birth canal (The great reverend doctor treated me like the son he never had). Anywho,I was watching over Brewer’s place with Jordan, Adam, and Daren and we needed each others support through that harrowing experience. It was a nail biting, cheek clenching, screamin’, hollerin’, hot damn and hallelujah type of ball game. . When Eli broke away from that hold and David Tyree made that impossible catch our hearts sang. And when Plaxico Burress caught the game winning touchdown fell to his knees and cried tears of joy…we…we…wept…with him. Ok so maybe we didn’t do all that stuff but we did run around and scream (except for Jordan, naturally).
It was a great day for friends, food and football. Enjoy the vids of the performances and commercials of Super Bowl XLII below.
.
Performances

Alicia Keys: Pre-Game

Paula Abdul: Pre-Game…Kinda like watching you’re friends semi-hot mom drunkenly show you what she leared this week in her hip-hop aerobics class.

Jordin Sparks with the National Anthem…she lipsinced…I feel cheated

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers: Halftime Show…The only good thing about this performance was the penis shaped guitar that penetrates the red pulsing heart and the resulting explosion on impact. It still doesn’t top Princes simulation with his penis guitar behind the sheet but it’s got the nasty little point across nonetheless.

Commercials

ALL the commercials in one vid. Nice, eh?

Wacko Jacko Back at the Superbowl?!?!

We're hearing that MJ may be surprising us all at Sunday’s Super Bowl. He won’t be performing though; he’ll be in a series of TV commercials promoting the 25th anniversary of Thriller. Also, Pepsi is said to be honoring Mike with a commercial based on the Thriller video. Source
I must say that I’m actually looking forward to this. I’m sure the Pepsi commercial will be hot. I mean, damn near every adaptation I’ve seen of that thing has been friggin awesome, from the Filipino inmates to the bridal party to the folks on the train (hilar!). And any commercials MJ does will either be fantabulous or a train wreck. In either case, Lo will be pleased. Can't wait to see MJ in action and can't wait to watch my Giants play. GOOOOOOO Big Blue!
